Meet Amanda | South Shore Moms

Amanda is originally from Medfield, MA. After college, she returned home to begin her teaching career as a 4th grade teacher for seven years. Once she started her family, she moved to the south shore. She and her husband were drawn to the area because of the ocean. They love the beach and the small town feel.

How many kids do you have?
My daughter, Ella, will be three in November and my son, Michael, will be one in December. (We figured we’d add a couple birthdays to the holiday-craze!) Of course I can’t leave out my first born, Roxy, though. Sad to say, after having two human babies Roxy is officially a dog now. Poor thing.

What do you love to do with your kids around town?
My kids and I love to keep busy. We spend a lot of time at the Beechwood playground, it’s the perfect size for both my kids since it’s not too big and doesn’t draw in the older crowd. We also love visiting the cows at Hornstra Farm (which I’m sure that has nothing to do with the ice cream). We spend a lot of time at Sandy Beach as well.

What is your favorite local fall activity?
My husband and I were engaged at Lookout Farm, it’s always been one of my favorite places to visit each fall. Now that my kids are a little older we love bringing them. There is so much more for kids to do than there ever was for us! They have a cute train ride through the apple orchards that leads to this adorable play area where they have animals, a playground, a bouncy house and picnic tables for lunch. It’s a lot of fun!

What do you do for work now?
Prior to starting my family, my passion was teaching. I had always envisioned myself as a working mom. However, after Ella was born my priorities shifted and my husband and I decided that daycare was not a good fit for our family. I found an opportunity with Rodan and Fields that allowed me the flexibility to work from home, make my own hours and put my family first. It was never something I saw myself doing but has become one of the best decisions, and the biggest blessing, for my family.

Favorite must have product for moms?
A good eye cream and Lash Boost! Even if we have not slept in 6 years, we all deserve to look like we have…

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
Take care of yourself. There is a reason why when you fly the stewardess tells you to assist yourself before assisting anyone else.  Mom takes care of the family. If Mom isn’t taken care of, how is she suppose to take care of everyone else?

What is the best advice you would like to give to a new mom?
Don’t compare.  Comparison is the thief of happiness. Only you know what’s best for you and your family. Also, remember… social media is a highlight reel.  It’s only capturing 1% of someone’s life.

Thanks, Amanda!
