Meet a Mom: Denese Butler, Principle Designer and Creative Director of the Perfect Vignette - South Shore Moms
I am so excited for this week’s “Meet a Mom” featuring Denese Butler, founder of The Perfect Vignette and star of the hit HGTV show, Fix My Frankenhouse.
My family was lucky enough to work with Denese and her husband when we were featured on the show. To say she is a “supermom” is an understatement; Denese is the ultimate “boy mom,” raising three sons while running her business alongside her husband. She has an incredible eye for design, and her husband brings a masterful approach to building. Together, they bring spaces to life and fix even the most awkward home layouts—from uneven stairs to “funky” rooms, they have you covered.
Originally from New York and New Jersey, they moved to the Boston area with their three boys to craft custom homes and manage renovations throughout the South Shore.
Keep reading to learn more about Denese and the wonderful advice she has for parents.

Where are you from originally?
I am first- generation American, born to immigrant parents, raised in from Mattapan, MA

Tell us about your family! How many kids, names/ages?
I’ve been married for 13 years and I am the ultimate boy mom- ages 4, 6, and 8 years old

How did you start your business?
After our first child was born I stepped into motherhood- and at the same time, I quite began building what would become my interior design business. Today, it’s a full design- build firm I run alongside my husband.

Where do you now call home and how long have you lived there?
We live in Stoughton, MA

What is your favorite part about living in the South Shore?
My favorite part about living in the South Shore is the easy access to the Cape and the area’s relaxed laid-back vibe.

What family activity do you enjoy most?
Because our schedules are so full, we prioritize creating memories with our boys over giving gifts. Travel has become one of our favorite ways to do that- whether it’s a long weekend in the Catskills or time spent in Maine, we’re always intentional about making those moments together count.

What is your favorite part about the work you do?
Home is my safe haven- a place of rest in the midst of a busy world. Through design, I enjoy helping my clients experience that same sense of peace through thoughtful aesthetics, function, and flow.

What do you find to be the toughest part about being a working mom?
Guilt is a universal feeling- one we all know too well. For several years, I was both a stay-at-home mom and a business owner, often with very little help, and sometimes none at all. I experienced first hand what it’s like to carry the weight of home and work at the same time, and finding balance was my greatest challenge. Over time, I’ve created a rhythm that works for me and my boys. Without that flow, I’d feel completely unhinged- but with it, everything moves with so much more grace.

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
Pray over your children, and teach them how to pray.

What is your best advice for a new mom?
You are the best equipped to create the “how-to” guide for yourself and your family. While it may seem like others have it all figured out, finding your rhythm takes time. Be gentle with yourself- Rome wasn’t built inn a day.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I started a College dance team and to this day it’s still running 17 years later.
