Meet a Mom: April Proctor Real Estate Agent with Jane Coit Real Estate - South Shore Moms
This week’s “Meet a Mom Monday” shines a spotlight on April Proctor, a Plymouth-based Real Estate Agent with Jane Coit Real Estate. April lives in Plymouth with her husband, their dog Chuck, and their son Cole, who is nearly three.
April received her Real Estate license in 2019 while working at a bank. In August 2021, she transitioned to real estate full-time and hasn’t looked back.
Based in Plymouth, she serves the South Shore and all of Southeastern Massachusetts. April understands that buying or selling a home is a significant life event and deeply appreciates the trust her clients place in her. She particularly enjoys working with first-time homebuyers, educating them throughout the process and watching their confidence grow.
In addition to her professional work, April has been incredibly brave and honest about her son’s autism diagnosis. She is fostering community support through her new group, “Parenting the Spectrum South Shore,” which brings together local parents and caregivers to share resources, support one another, and connect. April is an incredible mother and a dedicated advocate for both her son and her real estate clients.
Read on to learn more about April and some of her favorite stops on the South Shore. I am honored to feature such an inspiring member of our community.

Where are you from originally?
I am originally from Middleboro, MA.

Tell us about your family! How many kids, names/ages?
I am married to my husband, Doug, since June 2022. We have one child, our son, Cole who will be 3 this June. And we can’t forget our fur baby – our dog, Chuck. We live in West Plymouth.

How did you start your business?
In 2019 I got my real estate license & was working part time at Jane Coit Real Estate along with my full-time job at HarborOne Bank. At that time, I had been in banking since 2009 and was a Corporate Training & Development Specialist. I knew I wanted to work in real estate full-time, but I also knew how much there was to learn before I took the leap. I worked “part-time” until August 2021 when I quit my full-time banking career to dive into a full-time real estate career. It was a risk but I knew I was ready and I am so glad I never looked back! Since then, real estate has been my only career & I have truly built an amazing business.

Where do you now call home and how long have you lived there?
I live in West Plymouth, and we bought our home here in April of 2021.

What is your favorite part about living in the South Shore?
The sense of community. It truly feels like a place where neighbors become friends (I can attest to this as I have made SO MANY mom friends right in my neighborhood) and people show up for one another. I love being able to raise my child near the ocean, spend time outdoors on walking trails and beaches, and support so many amazing local small businesses.

What family activity do you enjoy most?
We are members of the Eel River Beach Club and look forward to spending majority of our summer there! The number one place to be with lots of families and all generations! There are so many activities for all members from small children to adults. The community there is something I never want to lose. We have made some amazing friends, and our children are developing friendships as the years go on.

What is your favorite part about the work you do?
My favorite part of my work is the trust my clients place in me during such a big moment in their lives. Buying or selling a home is one of the most complex and emotional (and expensive!) decisions someone can make, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. I especially love working with first-time homebuyers –educating them, breaking the process down step by step and watching their confidence grow as everything starts to click. At the end of the day, I don’t see myself as a “salesperson”. I see myself as an advisor and an advocate –
sometimes a therapist, sometimes a mediator – but always someone who is looking out for my clients’ best interests and making sure they truly understand every decision they are making.

Are you involved with any non-profits or do any volunteering?
I used to be involved in so much! When my son was born, it took some time for me to get back into a groove with work and slowly back into volunteering. I still show my support by sharing information online, donating as much as I can, but I am just now getting back into some volunteering for this spring/summer. I am part of The South Shore Realtors &; I have submitted my application for
volunteering later this year so I am hopeful I am put on a committee soon! The SSR also constantly has volunteer events, drives, etc. that I often donate to as well.

What do you find to be the toughest part about being a working mom?
I took a deep breath before I started answering this one lol. The toughest part for me is balancing the flexibility of my career with the unpredictability of motherhood. I am incredibly grateful that my job doesn’t have strict hours and it allows me to be present for my family in ways many traditional roles wouldn’t. But that same flexibility means I am constantly shifting gears and managing
competing priorities.

My son is on the autism spectrum, so our schedule includes ABA, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Early Intervention. That adds another layer of coordination – appointments, progress updates, emotional days and logistics – all while running a business. Some seasons feel heavier than others. I have learned that balance doesn’t always look perfect. Some days I am all in on work, other days I am fully in mom-mode. The hardest part is wanting to give 100% everywhere – but also learning to give myself grace when that is not realistic.

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
Not necessarily advice but someone said to me “The days are long, but the years are short” and I have never forgotten that. Looking at my son now who is about to turn 3 this summer – he is the prime example of this statement. I don’t understand how this little human in my life has been here almost three years but I feel like I just gave birth to him last month. So those tough days that seem to be never ending, I always remember to not sweat the small stuff because the years are going to fly by and I am going to miss it – even the tough stuff lol.

What is your best advice for a new mom?
GIVE YOURSELF GRACE. Becoming a new mom is something you can never be truly 100% prepared for and no one is a pro. We are all doing our best, learning from our mistakes and giving our children everything we possibly can. I know its so difficult because as a mom you feel the weight of the world on you but, we must always remember, we are only human and we are also living our lives for
the first time too. You will get exhausted, you will be overstimulated, you will feel like you don’t know what to do – but giving yourself grace allows us as mothers to take a moment and remember, if you’re worrying about being the best mom, you already are.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Hmmm this is a good question. This is actually something people would only be surprised to know if they don’t know me yet lol. I am an avid book lover and I started a book club with one of my friends back in 2022. We are celebrating our 4 year anniversary in March! I have met so many amazing women from our community by starting this book club and so many friendships have formed from it! We started with maybe 3 or 4 people we knew, and it grew so quickly due to social media. I am forever grateful for these women.

Is there a Quote or mantra you live by?
Not necessarily but I do believe in progress over perfection.
