I am thrilled to feature the incredibly talented Kassandra “Kassy” Desmond in this week’s “Meet a Mom.” Kassy is the Founder and Owner of Kassy Desmond Photography, a lifestyle photography business based in Norwell. A few years ago, she took a leap of faith, leaving her career as a pediatric nurse to pursue her lifelong passion for photography.
Kassy believes every photo has a life of its own and aims to help families create heirlooms that grow more meaningful over time. Her goal is to capture honest, heartfelt moments through lifestyle sessions, extended family sessions, and portraits.
Originally from Milton, Kassy met her husband in high school. They have been together for 20 years and moved to Norwell in 2023. They have three children—six-year-old twin boys and a four-year-old daughter. Kassy is truly doing it all!
Keep reading to learn more about Kassy, her favorite aspects of her work, and how she navigates the challenges of being a working mom.

Where are you from originally?
I grew up in Milton and I’ve lived on the South Shore pretty much my whole life.
Tell us about your family! How many kids, names/ages?
I met my husband in high school, he grew up in Scituate and we went to Thayer Academy in Braintree. We’ve been together almost 20 years now and have twin boys, Ryan and Colin, who are 6 and our daughter, Merrin, who is 4. They are at the best ages right now, so much fun.
How did you start your business?
Before my kids were born I worked as a pediatric nurse and loved it, but with having 3 kids in under two years I needed to step back. While photography had always been a hobby, I really started to get more into it while trying to capture my own young family’s moments. A few years ago I took the leap to start my business and I feel so lucky to be able to do what I love and be really present for my family as well.
Where do you now call home and how long have you lived there?
We moved to Norwell in 2023 and we absolutely love it. We live close to downtown and the walking path, I can ride my daughter to school on my bike, it’s wonderful.
What is your favorite part about living in the South Shore?
I think the beauty of it. I’ve gotten to explore so many different areas of the South Shore thanks to photography and I love the beaches, quaint town centers, fall foliage, all of it.
What family activity do you enjoy most?
I love spending time together outside. We’ll walk down the street to the soccer fields and let the kids run around, take the train into Boston Common and wander through the park or get out on the water on my parents’ boat. Especially after a long winter, the fresh
air makes me feel like a new person. There’s nothing better.
What is your favorite part about the work you do?
As a mom to young kids, I am painfully aware of how quickly time is rushing past. So getting to help families freeze the fleeting little moments and archive them to be enjoyed for years is such an incredible honor. My goal is to transport people back to a feeling, to capture the joy, the warmth, the love that every family shares throughout every stage of life.
Are you involved with any non-profits or do any volunteering?
I am a member of the Norwell Women’s Club. They host incredible events for our community as well as raise money for scholarships and community grants. I’ve also loved getting to partner with my kids’ PTOs and other local fundraisers.
What do you find to be the toughest part about being a working mom?
Asking for help! It’s never been my strong suit but nobody can do it alone and I feel very grateful for my village.
What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
No one’s giving you a prize for “doing it all.” Choose what to prioritize and protect your sanity.
What is your best advice for a new mom?
Never try to make a happy kid happier. If they’re content, let them be. (And make sure you get in some photos! You’ll want them later)
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Even though I’ve lived here my whole life, I love to travel. Some favorite vacations have been to Ireland, France and Italy.
Is there a Quote or mantra you live by?
Don’t compare your inside to someone else’s outside
Your go-to Pandora/Spotify/Apple Music station?
For music I’m very into Noah Kahan, but I also love a good comedy podcast.
Your favorite local spot for: date night, coffee break, workout, new outfit, self-care, “me time”
Some of my local favorites would be Cheever Tavern, Lucky Finn, The Cue and Hornstra Farms. For some me time, I like to walk the Norwell boardwalk.
