Child Passenger Safety Week | South Shore Moms

Hey, Moms! It’s time to get serious. September 17-23 is child passenger safety week. Did you know that car crashes are a leading cause of death in the U.S. for children ages 1 to 13? As terrifying as that is, many times, deaths and injuries can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters and seat belts. During child passenger safety week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) aims to urge parents and caregivers to protect their child’s future at every stage of life by making sure they secure them in the correct car seat for their age, height, and weight.

So, what do you need to know? Here are some simple steps you can take to help ensure that your child is traveling safely!

  1. Determine how to find the right car seat
  2. Install your car seat correctly
  3. Register your car seat
  4. Sign up to receive recall notifications on your car seat

Additionally, September 23, 2017 is national seat check Saturday! If, at any time, you have questions about your car seat or would like help with proper installation you can schedule a free child safety seat installation by appointment with the Duxbury Police Department. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call Sergeant Friend Weiler (pictured here) at (781) 934-5656 ext. 1122
