It’s the most magical time of the year! With the arrival of the holidays comes a full calendar of social activities from family and work parties to neighborhood get-togethers to nights at the theatre and full blown galas. Whatever obligations you have lined up this season, the big question on most ladies’ minds is WHAT DO I WEAR?! One of the reasons I love jewelry and accessories is their ability to transform the same outfit into something new and different every time. A basic black dress can get a complete facelift even if it is a few year’s old by pairing it with some showstopping jewelry. When I am working with customers, I often have them ask me to try to pair a necklace or earrings with a certain dress or top they are hoping to wear. Many send me a photo or even come by my house, which I love! One of the biggest elements I take into consideration when choosing the right jewelry for an outfit is the neckline. I have taken photos of some of the most common necklines and paired them with jewelry to help you plan your holiday outfits.
Crew Neck
A high crew neck blouse or dress is one of the most versatile necklines to style. My first choice is to pick a multi-strand or collar necklace to create some drama around the neck. If your top is a solid color, the sky’s the limit! If you are wearing a busy print, I would pick something more subtle and classic. If wearing a bold statement necklace, go easy with the earrings. A pair of hoops or studs pair best.
V-Neck
You have a few options with a v-neck top. A delicate pendant pairs nicely, but I generally stay away from a big necklace. If you are wearing sequins, opt for a fun dangle earring and some layered bracelets and leave the neck bare so as not to compete with the sparkle on the top.
Plunging Neckline
This is a neckline you can have fun with. Since you have a lot of skin showing, a statement or multi-strand necklace can also work well here. You can never go wrong with pearls at the holidays! I love this gray pearl necklace for a twist on a classic.
Scoop Neck
Long boho necklaces are very popular these days and pair beautifully with a scoop neck. If your top is simple like this white silk one, add a fun design element to your necklace like a tassel, crystal or medallion.
Halter
I generally avoid necklaces with halter tops and focus on adding dramatic dangles and cuff bracelets to complement the ensemble.
One of the best suggestions I will make is to have fun dressing for the holidays and don’t hold back, this is your time to sparkle!
