Mary Janes are the latest vestige of the 90s to have a 2023 moment, and moms are sporting them everywhere from drop-off to date night. “They’re a great way to update your shoe wardrobe this fall without sacrificing comfort,” says fashion contributor Kristin Kennedy of Closetful of Clothes. Hailed “the” show of the season by everyone from Vogue, to Refinary29, they’re essentially ballet flats made more practical with the addition of a strap.
Classic black is always a go-to, but you can also add a splash of color to a simple outfit with a fun hue or pattern. Best of all, there’s some longevity built in for the colder months ahead, says Kristen: “When it gets cooler out, you can wear them with a pair of black tights or if you like a 90’s-inspired feminine touch, try a pair of sweet ankle socks folded over and bare legs. It’s a more fashion-forward look but adds a very cool touch to mini skirt outfits.”
