Meet a Mom: Alex Grey, Owner of Living in Grey - South Shore Moms
Meet a Mom featuring real-life supermom, Alex Grey. Alex is a mother of four—ages seven, four, two, and one month—all while running her own business, Living in Grey Interior Design. Alex, her husband, and their children live in Hull, the same town where Alex grew up.
Alex has loved interior design since childhood. After her husband launched his construction business, Alex followed her passion and created Living in Grey. Her firm focuses on using natural materials that stand the test of time (so important for those of us with kids!) while drawing inspiration from what matters most to you as the client. Alex believes in creating comfortable, welcoming spaces that embrace everyone who walks through the door.

Where are you from originally?
Hull

Tell us about your family! How many kids, names/ages?
4 kids total, Leo – 7, Miles – 4, Hallie – 2, Margot – 1 month!

How did you start your business?
I come from a long line of real estate lovers and contractors. In turn, I have loved homes and interiors ever since I was a little girl but got my degree in a “safe” field. My husband started his construction business about 10 years ago and I fell in love with the process and creative side of breathing life back into a home. I started Living in Grey Interiors and manage my own projects, but still work alongside my husband in all of his ventures as well!

Where do you now call home and how long have you lived there?
Hull! I still can’t believe were “Townies” but we love our little beachside community.

What is your favorite part about living in the South Shore?
Being able to see the ocean every day.

What family activity do you enjoy most?
Grabbing a pizza and bottle of wine and heading down to the beach after work to let the kids run and catch the sunset.

What is your favorite part about the work you do?
The transformative process is so amazing to me. Also, being able to connect with people and create the spaces for people to live out their lives and make their memories; a child’s birthday, a holiday dinner, a Friday moving night – it’s why I love what I do and something I will never take for granted.

Are you involved with any non-profits or do any volunteering?
I am on the council for the Hull Family Network here in Hull, the most amazing program!

What do you find to be the toughest part about being a working mom?
I mean, the constant struggle of wondering if you are giving your kids enough attention but also trying to get things done.

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
Prioritize your mental health. Make time for yourself and your spouse.

What is your best advice for a new mom?
Enjoy every stage and try not to get caught up in thinking you need to do everything perfectly. You may stumble a bit and that’s okay.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Me and my husband got married in Tuscany!

Is there a Quote or mantra you live by?
“Comparison is the thief of joy”

Your go-to Pandora/Spotify/Apple Music station?
Depends on my mood but Fleetwood Mac & Amber Mark. Love the French Cafè playlist on Spotify especially when getting work done.

Your favorite local spot for:
date night – Tosca, coffee break – Seabird or Lucky Finn, workout – Proving Ground in Hull, the best! , new outfit – Sezane, self-care – a massage or pedicure, “me time”- a solo beach walk

Anything else you’d love to share?
