Meet a Mom- Ju-Young of Beat Bar Cycling - South Shore Moms

Happy Monday! I am so excited to introduce Ju-Young, the founder of Beat Bar Cycling.

Ju-Young is the founder of Beat Bar Cycling, which recently opened up in Hanover. They are bringing music and movement together to create a community. Ju-Young and her team take time in creating thoughtful playlists with the intention to create moments and movement on the bike. They are creating a strong, mindful, and all inclusive community right here in Hanover. Keep reading to learn more about Ju-Young,  whose love of indoor cycling over the past seven years has only grown stronger.

Where are you from originally?
Seoul, South Korea. She immigrated to New York City with her mom when she was only eleven months old.

Tell us about your family! How many kids, names/ages?
I am re-married to Ted Williamson. I have a 14 year old daughter, Ava, an 11 year old son Jake, and 2 step
sons, Drew 26 and Dan 24.

How did you start your business?
I started teaching in 2017, and when Covid hit I decided to teach classes via Zoom for free. It was during this time that I realized how much teaching means to me because it gives me so much fulfillment helping others feel good about themselves and better themselves. My riders let me know that I was such a big part of their day when things were feeling so low during Covid. I started to jot down ideas for logos and for the next 4 years all I did was think about and plan how to start my business. I went to every studio I could and took as many classes as I possibly could to gain any sort of knowledge about the industry and the instructors. I also wanted to know what set the elite instructors apart from the others. I then knew what I wanted to incorporate into my studio. As my ideas kept growing, I sat down with my sister, my best friend, and discussed the idea of doing this together. We put all of my ideas from the past 4 years into a business plan and decided to bring our dreams to life.

Where do you now call home and how long have you lived there?
I currently live in Scituate and have been here for 2 years.

What is your favorite part about living in the South Shore?
I am a city girl at heart but I love the closeness of the community here and how the community feels like family. Family means everything to me.

What family activity do you enjoy most?
I love grilling and eating outside together with my family and enjoying the beach community we live in.

What is your favorite part about the work you do?
My favorite part is watching my riders grow stronger mentally and physically. Seeing them reach their goals and being proud of themselves and a sense of accomplishment. Growing up I was always made fun of, so I hold a lot of empathy for people that don’t feel great about themselves and I want to do what I can to lift them up.

Are you involved with any non-profits or do any volunteering?
I occasionally volunteer for Father Bills in Quincy.

What do you find to be the toughest part about being a working mom?
Not having enough time to do everything. It gets overwhelming.

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
Simply put, don’t be so hard on yourself.

What is your best advice for a new mom?
As my Dad always said to me, “as long as you try, that’s all that matters.”

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I can paint and draw.

Is there a Quote or mantra you live by?
Be kind hearted.

Your go-to Pandora/Spotify/Apple Music station?
Afro-house, EDM & amp; hip-hop. Ju-Young is also influenced by the sounds of her dads Motown vinyl records, which you will see displayed on the studio wall which are dedicated to her late father.

Your favorite local spot for: date night, coffee break, workout, new outfit, self-care, “me
time” ?
For a good date night we go to, Salty girl in the Back Bay on a Sunday.  For a coffee break, I head to Lucky Finn in
Hanover. For my go to workout I go to Beat Bar and Norwell Athletic Club. When I need a new outfit I head to Aritzia. For my selfcare, I go to
Reliefology in Norwell. Me time is on my couch, in my pajamas with no one calling out Mama!

Be sure to check out one of Ju-Young classes at BeatBar Cycling in the morning. It is a must do workout, you will leave feeling inspired and so strong!
