Meet Courtney – The Mom Behind Toggles for Goggles | South Shore Moms

Courtney grew up in New York, right outside NYC.  She attended Boston College which is where she met her husband, Tommy.   They are now raising their family in Maryland where Tommy is originally from. Courtney and Tommy have three beautiful children, Hailey (8), Tommy (7), and Maddie (5).

◇ What is one of your favorite moments as a mom to date?

Besides the obvious, the births of my children, it has been a bunch of tiny moments.  When I see my kids putting others before themselves, it always makes me smile. One of these moments was when I watched  Hailey and Tommy complete the JUST TRYAN IT triathlon.  Just seeing them raise money to help families who are fighting cancer along with the smiles on their faces when they were swimming, biking and running will always be something I will look back on with a lot of pride and joy. One of my other favorite parenting moments is when my youngest daughter Maddie cut her hair with scissors when she was 3 years old. Her hair was so uneven and my husband took her out to “fix” it. She ended up getting a bowl cut at a barber shop! Maddie looked hilarious and adorable at the same time. She rocked her pixie cut with such confidence and started calling herself Tink after Tinkerbell.

◇ I love that, Tink. Too cute. What is the toughest part about being a mom?

The toughest part for me personally is not living close to my family.  My siblings and parents live near each other in New York and are constantly helping one another.  It’s hard not having them around the corner for everyday support. Lucky for me, my husbands family is here and I have made some great friends.

◇ Share some of the best advice you have received as a mom.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.  A few of my closest friends have dealt with any mother’s worst fears, serious illness of their children, and through their strength, perseverance, and resiliency, I have learned that the trivial everyday difficulties are not important.

◇ What is one thing you never leave the house without? I know it sounds bad but my phone.  I feel lost without it and like the comfort of knowing I can be reached at any time.

◇ What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

I come from an extremely large family.  I am one of five children but my dad is one of eleven. I have 44 first cousins and we all get together at least several times a year. Because I am so used to being around chaos, you will often find me with a minimum of five children at a time. I love watching my nieces and nephews and my children’s friends. I always have play dates at our house, sleepovers, impromptu gatherings, and I even have play dates for my dog. I truly believe and live the expression “the more the merrier”!

◇ Tell us more about Toggles and how you came up with the idea for Toggles for Goggles.

During the summer of 2017, I was tired of hearing that someone misplaced another pair of goggles.  Everyone seemed to have the same pair of goggles making them very easy to lose.  I thought of ways to make my children’s goggles stand out among all the pairs that were lying on the pool deck. After learning that there was nothing on the market that would allow my kids to personalize and customize goggles, Toggles for Goggles was created.
