Meet Tara | South Shore Moms

Tara grew up in Dedham, MA. She has two energetic boys – Keaton, 11 and Jaxon, 9. She also is mom to a pet guinea pig Cinnamon, who is 4 years old.

Where on the South Shore do you live?
How long have you lived in the South Shore area? We moved to the South Shore in January 2018 and just recently bought our house in Kingston, MA. Before that, my husband and I were both active duty Air Force and lived in California and then Michigan.

What is your favorite thing about living here?
My favorite thing about living on the South Shore is that it’s a great place to raise a family. It’s not overly developed and still maintains a lot of the old New England feel that I remember growing up. It hasn’t been inundated with shopping plazas and the people are friendly!

What do you love to do with your family around town?
Right now, we love to do anything that involves the ocean since we have been away from it for a while, but we’ve really been enjoying trying out new waterfront restaurants.

What is your favorite moment/memory as a parent to date?
As my kids get older I find myself missing/remembering our bedtime routine: bath, brushing, book, and how that was my favorite time of day because somehow that’s when all of the cute, random, funny stuff would happen and then we would all jump in my bed, snuggle up, and read one of our favorite books.

Tell us about your business and how it came to be, what you love about it, what makes it unique, what your goal is, etc…

This past April, I opened my pediatric dental office, Hanover Pediatric Dentistry. I knew from early on in my dental career that eventually I would want to own my own practice and after completing my Air Force commitment and pediatric dental residency my husband and I decided it was the perfect time to move back to MA and open up shop. I love that my family got to be an integral part in the office, from conception to fulfillment – their pictures and ideas are all over the office! It doesn’t just feel like my office, it feels like my family’s office. My goal with this office is to provide all patients, from all walks of life, with the highest quality comprehensive dental treatment in a caring and individualized way; the same way I would treat my own kids!

What is the toughest part about being a business owner?
The hardest part about being a small business owner is maintaining a good work-life balance…. somehow work always follows me home.

What is the best advice you have for another parent who is trying to balance it all?
The best advice I have is to ask for help! And trust me, that’s hard for someone who is as Type A as I am, but it definitely makes balancing running a business, being a mom and a wife, a lot easier and more enjoyable.

Are you involved in anything else within the community?
We are honored to sponsor one of the summer basketball teams at Starland Sportsplex and Fun Park and are partnering with the South Shore Early Education Center in Marshfield to provide the students with dental education and necessary treatment.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I think people would be surprised to know that I’m somewhat of a thrill seeker – I like riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, I’ve been bungy jumping and sky diving, and drag my family on all of the biggest, baddest rollercoasters and rides out there.
