If you’re a new mama and have been cleared to safely resume your workout routine after childbirth but are unsure where to start, you’ve found the perfect resource! We have explored gyms on the South Shore that offer specialized fitness programs for postpartum mothers. For those interested in workout classes that accommodate your little one or provide childcare, we’ve got you covered there too. Take a look at our list below for the top postpartum workouts!

 

Postpartum Programs

 

Lifted
Led by fitness expert Mel Keaney, Certified Women’s Fitness Specialist and women’s health physician assistant, this is a ten-week program meets weekly at their location in Hanover. The program is tailored to all needs and challenges that mamas might be facing postpartum. The focus of the program is to safely increase strength and build muscle for new mamas! Babies are welcome to work out with mom class and all experience levels are welcomed.  $350 for the ten week program.

 

FitPartum- Muscles and Mamas 
This program combines pelvic floor exercises and strength and conditioning in a supportive team environment. Classes are held two days a week for six weeks, babies are welcomed and even encouraged to come. This program includes 12- 60-minute workouts, three at home workouts for you to have, and a 1-hour workshop with a Diastasis Recti Screening and Breathing Mechanics for pelvic floor prep that you will use in class. Additionally, you will receive a sleep guide for newborns and infants created by a certified sleep consultant, and a postpartum nutrition guide by R.D Kelsey Massasi which will cover everything from breastfeeding tips to on-the-go snacks. At the end of your six weeks, you will have a celebratory lunch with a Q&A session. All classes are held by two amazing women, Kelli Bedoni, Physical Therapist, Orthopedic and Pelvic Health Physical Therapist who holds over 25 years of experience and Ally Hayes, who has over 15 years of experience in fitness and strength conditioning. Classes are held at KFIT in Hingham. If this location doesn’t work, they do also offer online postpartum programs at home as well.  $525 for the six week course.

 

Workout Classes with Child Care

 

BTone Fitness Hanover and Cohasset

BTONE is a 45 minute pilates-inspired workout. Within 45 minutes, you will receive strength training, functional movement, and work on your balance and flexibility. The secret? Slow movements that enhance mind-body awareness and achieve a deeper burn. Provides childcare for an extra $5, room for three children. Blackbird Wellness

Blackbird Wellness in Hingham offers three different mini and me classes which are all pre- and post-natal friendly. One option is mini and me: blackbird cardio, sculpt light. This is a signature class with mindful low intensity with a mix of yoga, aerobics, Pilates, and strength training intervals. Additionally, they offer mini and me slow flow yoga and blackbird classical barre. Currently, mini and me: blackbird cardio sculpt light is being offered on Thursday’s at 11am for an hour. 1 drop in class- $26

 

Bar Method Hingham

The Bar Method is a workout that combines strength training, cardio exercise, stretching, and barre work that will literally keep you on your toes. What is great is that no two classes are alike. All barre instructions go through a rigorous training which is why these barre instructors are some of the best. The method is low-impact, high intensity.
Childcare is provided in a great kids room! Their childcare that is offered is available on Monday- Friday 8:30am or at 9:35am. Childcare is $10 or they do offer packages as well; 10

Pulse Studio

Pulse Studio, located in Hingham on Derby Street, offers a pulse and little class. This is a 50-minute full body pulse class that has a dedicated focus on those postpartum modifications that you might need. They do welcome all ages including walkers! The best part is this class moves outside during the warmer months; this makes for a great morning in the sun! New Client Special- 2 weeks unlimited $45

 

Baby Booty Workout

This studio is a bit of a drive in Dedham but well worth it. Classes are for all parents/caregivers with babies five weeks to toddlers up to four years of age. You can even bring two littles if you want. What is great about their classes is they are thirty minutes long followed by a 30-minute social circle addressing all topics like sleep, eating etc. The workout itself includes movements we do every day as parents including but not limited to; squatting and lunging. There is a combination of strength, balance, stability, and barre. They do also offer a Signature Extended class and a Booty Mat class which takes place all on the mat. They do also offer great pop ups as well and classes that are just for caregivers. 1 drop in class- $28. New Client Unlimited Month- $45

 

South Shore YMCA

With two branch locations (Hanover and Quincy), a SSYMCA family membership provides access to many studio classes including cycling, Body Pump, barre, pilates, yoga and more. Plus, the family membership includes FREE child care for ages 6+ months and older.
