Spring Fun for the Family - South Shore Moms

It is time for outdoor adventures and we are so ready to get outside and enjoy all that Spring has to offer! Here are some fun ideas that the whole family will enjoy.

Geocaching: Say what? If you haven’t heard of geocaching before, think of it as a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game where you look for hidden objects using gps enabled devices. There are geocaches hidden all around the world and possibly right in your neighborhood. This fun, family-friendly activity will get everyone outside and you’ll be sure to discover new places that you never new existed right in your community. It guarantees exploration, discovery and adventure. Learn more at geocaching.com. We also like this article on how to get started.

Gardening: Plant a flower or vegetable garden with the kids. Head to your local nursery to do some research and ask questions on the best types of plants or flowers suited to your growing area. Let the kids choose what types of things they might like to plant and you can even get some seedlings or herbs started indoors as well. They’ll love watching their plants grow in the coming months and getting them to eat their veggies has never been easier when they’re picking them straight off the vine!

Embrace Rainy Days: Wet and rainy days can be a challenge with the kids, but they can also make for some of the most fun if you simply embrace it — so throw on your Hunters and grab a rain coat! Some ideas: go for a walk in the rain, get muddy, sing and dance, make rain art with chalk, play with water toys in puddles, rescue worms, race leaves or sticks down a river. The activities are endless and the kids will always remember that time they got to jump in puddles with Mom!

Make a Spring Bucketlist: Create a list of places you might like to visit and/or activities you’d like to do as a family. Things to look for: local parks, zoos, audubon societies, beaches or playgrounds. Pick your own fruits and veggies (strawberries, rhubarb and asparagus are generally in season.) Search for locally hosted events such as picnics, nature walks, farm days, parades, carnivals or farmer’s markets. Creating a list ahead of time makes for an easy fix when you’re looking for something to do. Whatever it is, be sure to get outside and enjoy all that Spring has to offer in our community.
