West University Mom Amanda Vlastas Gives Her Tips for a Fabulous Solo Valentine’s | South Shore Moms

Just because you’re solo, don’t forget “YOLO” this V-Day. Valentine’s Day may feel like it’s all about celebrating couples, but it’s really about love (and you don’t need to be a couple to celebrate that). It’s human nature to think that the grass is always greener, but being single has plenty of upsides – on Valentine’s Day or any other day.

Here’s how to create an amazing day to celebrate your family, besties, and most of all – yourself!

Create your own unique experience

Even if you’re not getting flowers from The One this year, you can give them to yourself or someone else.

But it goes beyond flowers…. Have fun playing cupid by curating your own Day of Love with your kids, family, or friends. Make homemade cards and tokens from construction paper and stickers, buy candy hearts and silly stuffed animals.

Last year I bought giant heart balloons that were attached to plastic sticks and held them out of my car’s sunroof as I drove through the pick-up line at my kids’ school. When they got in the car my younger son was visibly delighted while my older son was slightly embarrassed. It was a memorable day nevertheless.

Spread the love to your clients or neighbors, too. Sometimes sharing love is even more rewarding than receiving it.

Skip reservations

Dining out on Valentine’s Day is usually a total headache. With restaurants turning their regular tables into dozens of “tables for two,” the service can be unpredictable, the kitchen is usually overwhelmed, and it can be tough to be in a sea of duos when you’re single. On that  note…

Have fun with the ladies

“Galentine’s Day” is bigger than ever these days.  Gather your girlfriends for a fun-themed photo shoot, moms night in, happy hour or dinner (the day or weekend after) and celebrate those nourishing relationships you can only find with other women.

In 2018, I celebrated every mom that had done my “Meet a Mom” interview and made a collage with their photos and sent it out in my February newsletter. I love showing other women love!

Be your own Valentine

Spend the day on some well-deserved “me time”. Go to the spa, get a massage, and treat yourself to the best skincare for your numero uno. Then cozy up and watch your favorite flick

I try to do this regularly, I love to pamper myself with manicures and beauty services. But if it is not a priority for you then Valentine’s Day is a great excuse.

Skip February 14 altogether

Make a call and say “no” to the holiday if that feels best for you. Then save the money you would have spent on something you’ll really enjoy, like a trip or new pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing.
